Golden Canopy

The royal palace of the Kings of Imereti still stands in Kutaisi, the former capital city. The palace is also referred to as Golden Canopy and it is located on the left bank of Rioni river. In the center of the yard, under the large plane trees, one of which is preserved to this day, was a canopy - a table with a roof supported on four columns. A bell-tower, and a tower for the palace and treasury guards were integrated into the rampart.
