The fortified complex of the historical district of Rabat for centuries protected the city, which according to Vakhushti Batonishvili should have been called Lomsia. This city also served as the residence of the Jakeli. Today, the renovated complex – the Orthodox Cathedral, mosque, rampart, citadel, madrasa, minaret and Jakeli’s Palace-Museum is the landmark of Akhaltsikhe and the region.
